Executive Summary
- We offer one way of communicating with us, which is email. This article explains why that is the case.
Why We Limit Communication to Email
In terms of communicating with us, we only offer email. In this article, you will find why we think that email is the most sustainable, analytical, and complete way of communicating.
Our Experiences With Chat and Phone Calls
Earlier in the website’s history, we had a chat software on the site; however, the problem we faced was that we received numerous questions from non-subscribers who were demanding free information.
Ignoring the Instructions on Our Website
We received these requests, despite clearly stating on our home page that our email is for subscribers only. We would also get incoherently worded questions, which seems to be because it’s low effort to open up a chat window and begin typing.
After enough of this, we decided to remove the chat widget from the site. Removing the chat widget was one of the best decisions we made. The communications through the chat widget were really out of control and were a significant liability to us.
The Change in Chat from Its Original Proposed Purpose
If you’ll notice, it seems like most chat widgets on the Internet are now manned by AI instead of a person. And that might be because other companies have run into the same problem that we did.
We are also in a worse position than probably most websites regarding chat abuse, because there’s such an overwhelming number of people who want personalized consulting on Ivermectin and cancer, but don’t want to pay anything for it.
Email Over Phone Calls
We don’t have a published phone number because phone calls tend to last more than an hour, even though the initial question is usually far more narrow. Phone calls are also disruptive to our workflow, as we are working on something and have to stop for the call. Another problem with phone calls is that you end up with homework where you have to write down all the different links that support what you’re saying during the phone call, and then send an email afterward. The email is far more efficient.
If you take a look at doctors’ offices, you will see a phone number. However, when you call, you don’t talk to the doctor. You will speak with a receptionist, who will then ask you to schedule either an in-person appointment or a telemedicine call, for which the patient will be charged.
- Doctors charge for the in-office visit or the telemedicine call.
- All the cancer centers publish their phone numbers on their websites. However, when you call them, it’s the same thing. You don’t speak to anybody who gives you any information for free. They set up a time for you to visit that you have to pay for.
We had one doctor who wanted to cancel his subscription because he said we are challenging to access, even though we had already answered two of his questions through email previously. How difficult is it to send an email? However, this same doctor does not publish his cell phone number and provide answers to questions for free. So this doctor wanted a degree of access that he does not give his patients, even though he charges is patients much more than we do. So, even at only $35 a month, he wants to have phone access to us. While the number that he provides to the public only gives you access to his receptionist.
Therefore, we have a reason for restricting communication to email only.
However, we get back to people via email very quickly — at least in most cases. People wait the longest who send emails early in the day, often from EST states, when we have not yet begun our workday.
Benefits of Customer Support Through Email
Here is what we noticed about email.
- Email works very well for us to address whatever topic the subscriber has. Something about email prompts the sender to typically invest more time in crafting a coherent message.
- We can consider the question and write a comprehensive response. We can also provide links to supporting articles naturally as we write the response.
- There are only a few cases where we have decided to call the person, which tends to happen when they are not reading our emails and are very flustered and pressed for time, making it difficult for them to concentrate.
Furthermore, we also provide very detailed instructions on articles on the website. For example, we have a Welcome Email that covers how to get started using the site.
Complaints About a Lack of Access to Us
One way some subscribers may attempt to suggest they’re unhappy with something is by stating that they were unable to contact us by any method except email. They do this even though we’ve written this article you are reading now, and even though we declare on the website that we can only be contacted through email. This idea that is sometimes presented is that it is onerous and restrictive to have to write an email, and that a phone number should be available does not hold water.
These people will typically never consider the problems with making access too easy for a website that has information that many people want very much and are willing to circumvent our rules to attain.
